KELLEY KIDD. August 15, 2017. The events in Charlottesville, Virginia last weekend should remind me that all the efforts of the Civil Rights Movement have not altered the depth or the danger of racism in America. A death caused by deliberate acts of violence. Nineteen seriously hurt. Hundreds threatened with violence by men whose passion was to frighten and intimidate those who did not agree with their bigotry. It sounds like Little Rock in 1958 or Americus in 1961. We have come a long way, but we still have so much farther to travel before this country truly lives the meaning of its creed.
